Knight of the Year 2011 Presentation

At our annual Council Christmas brunch Grand Knight Nick Gaudio presented the award of Knight of the Year 2011 to Tom Galenziewski. Here is the text of the presentation:

Knight of the Year 2011 Presentation

The Knight of the Year is typically a man who exemplifies through his life and service to the Council the attributes of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The man I selected to be the Knight of the Year has shown all of these attributes. Council 12449’s Knight of the Year for 2011 is Tom Galenziewski.

  • Tom has faithfully served as our council’s recorder and our assembly’s scribe
  • He has provided me with invaluable help by serving as the liaison to the parish in scheduling all our events with requests for resources, pulpit announcements, and bulletin articles.
  • He is a co-author of the Knights Korner
  • He serves as the chair for the St. Vincent De Paul food drives where on more than one occasion he had to be present at every Mass to collect the food
  • Tom is also on the pasta dinner planning committee and has the additional challenge of keeping Louie on the straight and narrow.
  • He answers the assembly call-outs and participates in many events of faith
  • All of this in addition to helping with Sunday donuts, pancake breakfast, tootsie roll drive, and whatever else is needed.  He is one Knight that this council can reliably count on.

It is indeed a privilege and an honor to present to Tom Galenziewski the highest Award that a Council can present to one of its members: “2011 Knight of the Year.”  Congratulations.

We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed Happy New Year.  This is a joyous time of the year as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We take time to reflect on and give thanks for all the Blessings in our lives and to remember those who are sick, poor, or lonely.

Going to the Hospital?
Going in the hospital?  Please call the Parish FIRST and let the Parish know.  Need to receive the Sacrament of Anointing?   Ask the Parish to have a priest anoint you with this great healing Sacrament BEFORE you go to the hospital!  In addition let Admissions in the hospital or the Admissions folks in the Emergency Room know that you are Catholic and would like someone from the Parish to come and see you.  This will help ensure that someone from the Parish will visit you and bring you Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist.

If you get the chance, give your Grand Knight a call or send him an email and let him know. Ditto for the Faithful Navigator of our Fourth Degree Assembly.  Once the Council or the Assembly knows what is happening, we can send out a "Good of the Order” email and initiate a prayer chain for you or your loved one.  In addition, if you like, we can ask our Brothers and the Ladies of the Knights to send you cards, emails, and visit you if you like.

Want to learn as easy way to let your friends and loved ones know what is going on if your hospital stay may be a while?  Google “Caring Bridge!”  This is a great web site where you can set up your own web site to let everyone know what is going on.  “Caring Bridge” will lead you through the steps to set this up and you will be grateful you did.  When John Nichols had open heart surgery, he set up a Caring Bridge site and had over 1,600 hits on his Caring Bridge site and received many heartfelt prayers and good wishes.
